Moving to a new accountant is common — and usually straightforward when both firms follow professional clearance etiquette.

Typical steps

  1. Introductory meeting with the new firm
  2. Written proposal and engagement letter
  3. Professional clearance request to your current accountant
  4. Handover of records and software access
  5. HMRC agent authorisation updates

Timing tips

Mid-year switches are fine for many services. Around year end or VAT quarter ends, plan a little extra lead time so filings are not caught between firms.
